A few weeks ago, we listed our top picks for your fall women’s Bible study. This week, we wanted to tell you about five new Bible studies that are for men, women, or men and women together. They would be perfect for your fall small group study.
The latest Bible studies are timely. They talk about how to live in today’s world as a believer in God. Each one looks at our callings as Christians from a different angle, but all are helpful for this time. You may find that one is written by an author you know and love or are more curious about. You may find that there is a study written on exactly where your conversations have taken you recently. We publish lots of Bible studies because we know every group is different; every person is different. We want you to know that the Bible is alive and active and it speaks to you and your group today.
Here are five new studies we’re excited to tell you about.
Truth and Lies by Tim Chaddick
At the sound of the word “temptation,” we typically jump to the capital-letter temptations that show up as various addictions. But there are more subtle forms of temptation in the lies of success, false identity, and religiosity. Truth and Lies will help group members understand how God uses temptation to reveal and bring character out of them. That is, temptation is an opportunity to recognize and choose truth as Jesus did. This study reveals how the Enemy works, how to identify the Accuser’s schemes, and what Jesus teaches us through His temptations.
Horizontal Jesus by Tony Evans
Loving God is vertical love. Loving others is horizontal love. Jesus showed His disciples how these two loves are intertwined in practical ways. While our relationship with God is based on faith alone, He warns and encourages us to see that the way we treat people affects our experience of Him. In this six-session study, you’ll learn how to apply biblical principles drawn from several one-another passages in Scripture. In doing so, you’ll reap blessings in your vertical relationship with God.
Crazy Grace for Crazy Times by Derwin L. Gray
It’s a complicated world. And it’s only getting more complicated, especially for disciples striving to live as Jesus wants us to live. When faced with current challenges, believers often long for the good old days of the New Testament church. In reality, the culture and the church were just as crazy then as they are today. Ministering to the church in Corinth, the apostle Paul’s first letter to the church contained this life-changing truth: the heartbeat and lifeblood of the Christian life is grace. This study provides a clear and compelling path to the kind of grace that leads to compassionate ministry and influential witness even on the margins of life.
Onward by Russell Moore
As the culture changes all around us, it is no longer possible for Christians to pretend that we are a moral majority. That may be bad news for America, but it can be good news for the church. Nominal Christianity isn’t working anymore. What’s needed now, in shifting times, is neither a doubling-down on the status quo nor a retreat into isolation. Instead, we need a church that speaks to social and political issues with a bigger vision in mind: that of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this six-session small group Bible study, understand how the kingdom of God sets our priorities as believers and gives us perspective on cultural issues.
