This is the third and final part of Holly’s recap from Deeper Still Denver. Thanks, Holly!
Finally, Beth Moore, my sister, friend and mentor came to speak. She has thrown me the life-preserver more than 100 times, at least, in my journey. Kay prayed these words over her, “She (Beth) is observing to do all that You (God) have commanded her.” And she is! And it is hard, but she does it to honor and bring glory to her Lord Jesus. She does the hard thing and if we heed and obey and walk, as she does, we could be lifeguards, too!
Beth spoke from Matthew 5 and caused us to see the scene on that hillside–people with seizures, demon possession, severe pain, diseased, paralyzed and ill came to Jesus in mass pandemonium and the disciples discovered first-hand that ministry is HARD. She said the truth of God’s Word washes our minds, so that we are freed up to love and serve Him with our whole hearts. We need the one, who blesses in us. We need the blessing of the Blessor, Jesus Christ. His words in this text shifted from they and them to you. And because the Blessor came to bless the ones that others saw as cursed (uwe are included in that crowd of the cursed), we are GLAD–not just glad as a condition, but also glad as an emotion. For Jesus has GOOD NEWS for us. This world is out to wreck our lives and call us cursed, but Jesus came to call us B-L-ESSED!
Beth said, “If you have a woman with a past, you have a threat to the enemy–powerful threat, because that one has been to Hell and back. And in that context, Jesus says BLESSED. The definition of blessed come from the lexical Greek, Makarios–Biblically, one is pronounced blessed when God is present and involved in his life. The hand of God is at work directing all his affairs for a Divine purpose, and thus in a sense, such a person lives Coram Deo–before the face of God.” So if you NEED Jesus, you ARE blessed.
Now let me interject here, the Holy Spirit redirected Beth mid-course, so that she shared much of her testimony in various parts of her life. I know that she shared this, because of the great amount of hurt in that room–me included. My eyes poured tears continually, as she spoke. So even though she did not complete her notes, she carried out exactly what God directed for the purpose of showing each of us, that we were all Coram Deo and BLESSED. And I tell you, we left that room changed. I did. I know the ones with me did.
Beth said, “Everybody has something–what if we could be seen before Jesus in this room with what is truly bothering us? What if we could be before Him today and had no other comfort for which to run? What if we just came as we are with all the inside stuff laid out? Well then, we would be at the place where we would say, ‘I need You, Jesus, more than I need my next breath. His Spirit in us changes us.” We need to come to terms with how sick we have been. We need to take personally what little things God is doing in our lives and live Coram Deo–before the face of God. The trade off is seeing a glimpse of God. And here I wrote this: “He will be faithful to you, Holly.” And y’all? He has been. He is. And there is no reason for me to act as if He will not be in the future.
At the end, Beth shared words that Keith had left on her phone message, “I love you, Darling. Come Home to me.” And one day, my sisters, you will hear the voice of Jesus saying JUST THAT to you. Can you hear it? “I love you, Darling. Come Home to me.” So rejoice and be glad. Jesus is anxiously awaiting THAT DAY.
So then, my sisters, strengthen what remains. He has a Word for you and me–and it all comes down to thing, “What you have received and heard, obey it and repent. Don’t just act alive, sisters, BE alive.”
Great recaps Holly. Thank you so much!
