I saw a news story recently of a car that crashed and burst into flames near Memphis, Tennessee. Helpful bystanders actually rushed to the driver’s aid pulling him from the burning wreckage. After the flames were extinguished, authorities noticed something strange under the seat of the burned-out car. It was a Bible. Thought the car was completely destroyed by the fire, the Bible was somehow completely unharmed. What do we make of this story? I’m not sure.
Did God somehow miraculously preserve this man’s copy of the Bible? I don’t know. When it comes to such things, I’m open but skeptical. What I do know, however, is that God has indeed chosen to reveal, through His Word, Himself and his desires to redeem a world fractured by sin. It was penned by over 40 writers on 3 continents over 1500 years and yet it is one continuous epic story from Genesis to the maps. It is the story of the gospel. It is this story that Peter reminds us will remain forever (1 Peter 1:24-25).
“The vigor of our spiritual life will be in direct proportion to the place held by our Bible in our life and thoughts.” ~ George Mueller
