Use these Christ Connection statements as you teach Unit 2 “Loving My Family” to show kids that the entire Bible points to Jesus.
Unit 2, Session 1
Preschool: Jacob’s story reminds us why we need a Savior. Jacob lied, and he tricked Isaac to get the blessing that wasn’t his. Jesus shares His blessing with us. We do not have to lie or trick God to get it. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and gives us eternal life.
Kids: Jesus is the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:15) When Jesus hung on the cross, He gave up His blessing for us. Jesus took the punishment we deserve so that the Father would give us the blessing Jesus deserves.
Unit 2, Sessions 2 and 3
Preschool: God saved Moses’ life so Moses could one day save God’s people from the Egyptian king. God used His Son, Jesus, to save people in an even better way. God sent Jesus to earth to save us from our sin.
Kids: God saved Moses to rescue His people. The calling of Moses points to a greater calling and rescue—the call of Jesus to come to earth to save God’s people from sin. Moses and Jesus both obeyed God’s commands in order to carry out His plan of salvation. Moses delivered God’s people from physical captivity; Jesus delivered God’s people from captivity to sin.
Unit 2, Session 4
Preschool: Boaz helped his close relatives. Boaz was a family redeemer. He bought back what his relatives lost. Jesus is our Redeemer. He bought our salvation from sin by dying on the cross.
Kids: Boaz was a family redeemer. That means he would help his close relatives who were in trouble. Boaz cared for Ruth and Naomi because their husbands had died. In a similar way, Jesus is our Redeemer. We need help because we sin. Jesus bought our salvation for us by taking our punishment when He died on the cross.
