The Point: We can follow Jesus’ example in defeating spiritual attacks.
Get Into the Study
Use this story to introduce Jesus’ foolproof battle plan.
North Korea is continuing its missile tests and development of its weapons program, despite current U.N. Security Council sanctions. North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un says he wants to establish a military equilibrium with the United States and will continue to move forward with the country’s nuclear program.
North Korea launched a missile over Japan last week, ignoring current warnings. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley says the Security Council is out of options and may be turning the matter over to the Pentagon. In light of this, many are wondering what military response options the United States has, and if there are any non-military options left.
In making decisions, leaders often consider what previous leaders have done. What plans or actions may have worked in similar situations, what types of actions have already failed.
Ask: What is a situation where you look to others to learn from their failures and successes?
In considering North Korea, there is a potential for an attack. In considering our spiritual battle, there is a certainty of an attack. Satan will attack us spiritually. There is a battle, but we also have seen the successful battle plan of the master, Jesus Christ. In this session, we will see Jesus use Scripture to defeat Satan’s attacks.

Though not everyone is a natural planner, some events demand extensive and intentional planning. Walt Disney World in Florida is one of the most visited locations on planet Earth. Some families save for years to go while others sacrifice greatly to go more than once per year. Because of the great financial expense and incredible amount of activities, months and months of planning with Disney-specific tools are utilized to maximize vacations.

- Using one word, describe these planning tools.
- While intense, how can thorough planning be wise?
- How could giving thought to a plan for schemes and attacks of the evil one benefit the Christian?
- What might this plan include?
