Each month, you’ll hear from one of us on what we’re reading and a little bit about the book. Enjoy!
With Christmas vacations coming up, we thought it’d be fun to share a few of our favorite children’s Christmas books to read together this holiday season! Find any of these on Lifeway.com or at your local Lifeway store!
M Is for Manger
We love this Christmas take on an alphabet book. From the angel that appeared to Mary to the zillions of stars that all paled in comparison to the star that announced Christ’s birth, each letter tells a little piece of Christ’s birth story in rhyme!
Sneak Peek:
Mary gently wrapped her son,
then rested in the shed.
She placed the newborn Savior
in a MANGER for his bed.
The Littlest Watchman
The Littlest Watchman tells the story of Benjamin, whose family’s job is watching for the signs of God’s promises coming true. More specifically, they faithfully watch a tree stump for signs of new life (because of a promise that a new shoot would spring from an old stump). Just as Benjamin grows tired of waiting one night, he witnesses something amazing.
Not only is this a fun, different way to engage kids in the story of Christ’s birth, but this story focuses on waiting, which can be a great conversation starter for what the season of advent is all about. Use this book as a way to spark family conversations about those that waited for Christ’s birth and how we still wait for Christ’s return.
Look and Find Bible Stories: Christmas
We love all of the look-and-find books for family time, but this Christmas version is an especially fun addition for your holiday downtime. Explore five busy scenes from the first Christmas together as a family to learn more about the story of Christ’s birth. Then, open the large flaps for each scene to reveal a look-and-find checklist. You can search for dozens of people, animals, and objects. You can even use a write-on wipe-off marker to enjoy it over and over!
My March to the Manger
It’s never a bad idea to have a fun holiday board book in the mix for the youngest little ones. This sweet board book shows different animals gathering near the stable, with each page drawing closer to the manger as you count down to Christmas!
The Donkey in the Living Room
A family favorite, this book explores Christmas by looking at the stories of various characters in the nativity scene—including the Donkey, Cow, Sheep, Shepherd, Angel, Camel, Wise Men, Joseph, and baby Jesus. You can read through all the of characters at once as you set up your nativity scene, or read them a day at a time to build up to Christmas Day together!
