Yall, it’s time for true confessions. My hand shot up in the air to write this when our team said we were going to write Book Notes on Candace Cameron Bure’s book Dancing Through Life. I love watching Dancing with the Stars and honestly, I started watching because Candace was on the show a couple of years ago. Full House was one of my favorite shows grown up, and I always wanted a big sister like DJ Tanner. Candace’s influence as a believer continues to grow, and she’s a great role-model in a very challenging environment.
This book is the story of her journey on Dancing with the Stars and how it truly changed her life. It was one huge part of the process of what God has been preparing her to do. She uses Scripture, real-life stories and examples of being a wife and mom, and her humor to share her journey. One of my favorite parts of the book is when she gives some ground rules for how to treat each other online. This is such a key reminder in a day and age when we feel like we have the right to say whatever we want to whomever we want.
Candace’s honesty and humor are what made the book come to life for me. She talks so openly and candidly about her relationship with Jesus, and I find myself relating to her in ways I never thought I would.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“Off the DWTS stage and away from the glaring spotlight, I am resolved that I won’t ever stop being the real me to be an illusion of a better but fake Christian version of myself.”
“I knew that because of my faith in Christ, I was protected from harm even as I entered this journey of stretching.”
“In the moments when life is hard and a critical need arises, God is my source of strength.”
As I read this book, I felt prompted to pray for Candace as she continues to be a powerful influence for the Kingdom in a place where it’s easy to set God aside. Would you take a minute to pray for her and then tweet at her to tell her? Prayer undergirds every bit of who we are as believers in Christ, and we need to support those who are taking a stand for Jesus wherever they are called to serve and minister. I hope that you’ll take the time to read this book about Candace’s journey!
