Not long ago I had the privilege to serve at a large event down South. As we exited the freeway for our downtown destination, one place of business was so prominent and well lit that you couldn’t miss it with an inch-thick blindfold.

It was a high-dollar strip club with a giant marquee advertising in neon lights the names and showtimes of various dancers. I was in the car with several gentlemen, so we all felt a bit awkward when we pulled up to our hotel nearby.

“Wow,” I said to break the tension. “That’s an interesting view for the weekend.” The words weren’t cast like stones. With my background and former bondage, it’s a miracle that I didn’t end up somewhere worse. Still, the imposing structure was impossible to ignore.

When I walked into my hotel room on the seventh floor, the picture window framed the marquee like it was custom-fit. The lights were so alive in my room late that night that I tightened the blinds together to darken the room so I could sleep.

My alarm went off well before daylight. Coming out of the bathroom to pour some coffee, I saw a long sliver of florescent orange light searing a laser beam across the bed through the thin gap between the curtains. The sight was so remarkable that I walked over to the window and threw open the blinds. An incandescent pumpkin-sun had set the horizon ablaze.

I stood transfixed at the glass as it rose beside that club like an outdoor elevator ascending every floor. The sun then seemed to halt right on top of that marquee like it was momentarily hung on a nail. I stared at the sight with breathless wonder.

Still stirred by what I’d seen, I opened the conference that morning with the story and asked the attendees if they would pray with me compassionately for the women who worked there and for others employed in similar places. They welcomed the privilege and some eight thousand hearts raised the roof in unified rhythm.

I had no idea until right after the session that 20 dancers from that very business were seated at the top of the arena. They were floored by the story and wept through the prayer, awed that Christ had pursued them with unabashed affection.

I could still sob over the gracious heart of God. He didn’t bring the sun up over a steeple that day. He brought the sun up over a strip club. That is my Jesus. That is your Jesus.

No door is so dark and scandalous that Jesus is unwilling to enter to make Himself one person’s exit. For what good is light on this desolate sod if it refuses to show up in the darkness?

Picking a favorite Beth Moore study is too hard!! I have participated in “Esther”, “Daniel”, “David”, “James” and am currently doing “Breaking Free”. Each one has been just as good as the others. If I absolutely had to pick one, I would go with “Esther” because that is the first one I did. It showed me just how in depth a bible study could take you and it inspired me to keep on studying.

  279. Marian Kvien says:

I love every Bible study I have done by Beth Moore, but always recall the first one…”Jesus, the One and Only”. 307. Jodi Barnes says:

A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place. After this study…..woe is me Isaiah 6:5, absolutely beautiful study.

  308. Barbara Duncan says:

Since doing Breaking Free over 5 years ago, no other person’s studies have even come close to helping me learn more about God than Beth’s have. I LOVE the homework! (I’m a bit of a nerd, I guess!) As much as I love Breaking Free, though, I would have to say that Believing God was my all-time favorite. I look forward to doing this one!

  309. So blessed by God’s anointing in these studies by Beth!

  310. Barbara says:

It is difficult.. if not impossible.. to pick a favorite Beth Moore study. God seems to bring them and use them just when I need them. I think every believer should do Believing God. I did it when it was only an online study and then did it later with a group and then led it with my ladies last year. Loved it every time! Songs of Ascent is one that moved me and has stayed with me. I read those Psalms with different eyes these days. And James.. oh my.. powerful is not the Word. Oh wait.. Daniel.. love that one too! See.. impossible to choose. I am soo looking forward to Children of the day. 20 years ago this fall I walked in to my very first Bible study. I had been a Christian 17 years, but was still a wee babe. Had NO idea the Word was alive. God pushed me (screaming and kicking) into a Precepts Bible study.. the book we were studying? 2 Thessalonians! And now.. 20 years later I will be leading a study on 1 & 2 Thessalonians this fall! How like God is that!?

  311. Gina Fernandez says:

I have loved all of her studies, but I think Breaking Free is my favorite! So excited about this one!!

  312. This testimony of the strip club story in Beth’s new Children Of The Day study is exactly why I’m excited at all of Beth’s Bible studies. She has an eye and spirit to see where and what the Father is doing, and to follow His lead in bringing ladies to be proactive in His work. My fav is Believing God because it ministered to my injured, fearful, anxious heart to the point of strength, confidence, and courage to follow hard after Jesus!

  313. Lyndsey E says:

    Daniel! :D

  314. Judy Wright says:

My ladies Bible study is thinking of doing this one in the fall. We love Beth!

  315. Linda Zyla says:

What a powerful story, once again JESUS working today, in our midst humbles me to the point of tears at my desk at work. My favorite Beth Moore study is Esther, for I often think of the verse Esther 4:14b “Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.” Which reminds me to be like Samuel in 1Samuel 3:10 “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”

  316. Natalie says:

I love all the studies!! My favorite would be Breaking Free. Beth is a such an inspiration to me!

  317. Christy says:

I would love to have this study to do with the ladies of my church next. What a beautiful excerpt and a powerful message.

  318. Mary S says:

My favorite Beth Moore study was Daniel

  319. Kelli s says:

James! The memorization was especially life changing for me.

  320. James is my favorite so far!

  321. Julie Gonzalez says:

I have to be honest and say that I haven’t taken a Beth Moore study yet. We hosted the simulcast at our church last year and I was so blessed by that that I’m going to Living Proof Live in June in Biloxi. I would love to have the starter kit for my church so that I could participate in the Bible Study. I just know it will be a life changer. Thank you!

  322. My favorite Bible study was James. It really touched my heart and stirred things in me.

  323. Katie H says:

I loved her James study. It was the first one that did by Beth Moore and I fell in love with the book of James.

  324. Our women’s group is doing “Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed” during June and July, but I’d love to be able to provide this for us for the fall! Thanks so much for the opportunity to win a starter kit!

  325. Anamaria says:

I just love Beth’s studies and her contagious passion for the word of God!

  326. Joyce Bush says:

My favorite, hard to say, I’ve done so many. I will say Esther today, probably because it’s the one we did most recently. I had a new audience in Bible Study where only a couple had done that one, so I did it again. I love her studies and her insight.

  327. Carla Ballowe says:

My favorite Beth Moore study is the one I am studying at any given time. The first I did was “Jesus the One and Only”. The last one I did was “James.”

  328. I remember reading.this story on Beth’s blog….often the thing that occupies the highest point (or most noticeable)in a city represents the “spirit” that dominates. The first thing we can always do is pray. Like.the sun rising to a point above the marquee…God has the final say. I always hope when I hear people pray for others that someone is able and willing to do for these others. Strip club ministries are starting around the country. It doesn’t consist of preaching….it is about loving and connecting. Someday I will…it is a part of the vision before me.

  329. Elizabeth Nix says:

Love Beth Moore Bible Studies. She presents the word in such remarkable fashion that everyone young and old can study scripture. Each of her studies are so special, its hard to pick just one favorite. James sparked the flame of leadership in me and Breaking Free revealed deeply hidden burdens of betrayal and distrust. I’ve grown so much in the last few years greatly due to these 2 studies from Beth.

Sacred Secrets was my 1st and now I am co-leading Esther: it’s tough being a woman. I love words (etymology) as well and I love how much research goes into her studies. This excerpt really moved me because I remember many mornings after being up all night getting high and walking the streets I would see the sun rise and be in disbelief that I had to do this again, today, all over again. I hated sunrises. They reminded me that I failed the night before. They were rays of guilt, and nothing glorious was in them.
Now, after dedicated my life to the Lord, accepting Christ’s death as my path to salvation, and receiving God’s grace even though I don’t deserve it….. he gave it anyway. Even though I sinned the night before, he rose the sun morning after morning and gave me life anyway……. because He loves me and wanted me to come to him. Now I look at sunrises with a completely different mind and heart. They are His beautiful invitations to spend the day with Him. And everyday I fall into His arms.

However, our school is not at all in the financial situation to buy a complete leader’s kit! This would be such a blessing and confirmation from the Lord that I am on the right track!

  560. Living Proof – but it’s been a while. It’s time for another one!

  561. Robin Hometchko says:

Each time I participate in a Beth Moore study I feel so blessed. I was introduced to Beth and her teaching in a truly dark time in my life. I purchased her book “So long insecurity”. Shortly after I purchased the book, the church I was attending shared her simulcast. This was in 2010, I believed my life would forever be in darkness. Beth showed me the truth of Gods love, and how truly special I am. The first study I did was the David study. I was forever trabsformed!

I am now attending a much smaller church and I am being called to lead a women’s bible study group. By receiving a copy of the small group starter study I would have the tools necessary to start my mission of sharing Gods word thru the love and wisdom Beth Moore brings to each study.

Right now, I’m not where I could attend a study group – (I am a cancer survivor – had surgery 6 months ago and, praise God, did not have to undergo treatment – and went back to work in January) – now my terminally ill mother is living with us under the care of hospice. So, when I’m not at work, I’m helping take care of my precious Mama! I would love to be able to attend another Beth Moore study and pray that I will be blessed one day soon to be able to do so. I would love to win this new study and share it in my home with my girlfriends. Beth has helped grow a love of studying the Word. She presents in such a way that the Word comes alive and teaches how to go deeper in it. What a gift she blesses each of us with through her obedience to the Lord. In each studying I can remember a time that God spoke to me and I grew through that moment in such an amazing because open hearts call out for God’s presence to enter and fill..

My favorite study was when godly people do ungodly things…it was the kicker to my wholeness in Christ. Now I lead many women to being real with themselves and others so they can walk in the bedroom of Christ.

  677. Very hard to pick one study that is my favorite. Living Beyond Yourself was an amazing study though!

  678. Jeannie says:

    I loved the Esther study!

  679. Her sense of urgency that “today is the day” needs to not just be heard but to seep into the pores and beings of all people! Can’t wait to do this study.

  680. The Lord has shown me many truths in all the studies but I think the favorite one for me is “The Patriarchs'” If this blog is any indication of the new study, it is exciting to soon begin.

  681. Nancy Coffey says:

Beth has brought the Lord to me in ways I never knew possible!

  682. Zena Lewis says:

I have a hard time deciding which study is my favorite. GOD reveals himself in the most perfect way and speaks through each one. EVERYONE is my favorite at the time of study. However, James was an amazing study. Thanks for providing a contest like this. I hope to win for our ladies small group.

  683. Janet Beach says:

my Favorite bible study is Living beyond yourself… Good stuff

  684. Dana Stout says:

We are planning to do this one this summer

  685. To Live is Christ was my favorite Beth Moore study

  686. Love all Beth’s books. So many times its just what I needed to remember in my life and God calls my attention to it through her books. Thanks so much for doing this in this economy its hard to go out for us right now and spend money on special things like this right now.

  687. Tish Crews says:

    ❤️ All of her studies!

  688. I have done about 9 of Beth’s studied and it is hard to pick a favorite bcause they all speak to the heart. We would love to win this study!

  689. Abi Moore says:

I jumped into Beth Moore study as a young Christian right after I got baptized and the truth and God’s words became the foundation of my love and desire for God. 11 years and numerous Beth Moore and so many other Bible studies later, I’m leading a big group of ladies in Bible study called JOURNEY ToGetHer to grow spiritually together, to love by serving others and to get as many God’s daughters to enter the kingdom of God together. Thank you for your grace and saying yes to God’s calling to bless others!

  690. Maria Folsom says:

  691. Just one? Sigh……..ok, Fruit of the Spirit!!

  692. Wilma Mansfield says:

The Daniel study is my favorite all time favorite. It was the first study I did after years of being away from studying the Bible. I got “hooked” on Beth Moore’s studies and conferences. I have attended a conference a year since then. I look forward to this new study whether I win the study or not.

  693. Lisa. Mize says:

My favorite study so far has been Believing God.

I’m in the middle of the Esther study and love it. It’s the first Beth Moore study I’ve done and can’t wait to do more! I am going to be starting a single mom support group and I know some of Beth Moore’s studies will be used!

  696. I cannot say one bible study is more of my favorite than any other because they all hit home and I am so enriched in my faith and have more knowledge of myself at the end. I have attended one conference in Minnesota where Beth spoke and I left so filled up that I was on a high for days afterwards. I have books that I read through that I haven’t taken the studies with (cannot afford them myself) and no matter what form of word I have from Beth it is so powerful to me that it is impossible to put down – even at the end. Thank you Lifeway for providing these studies for us.

  697. Love every book and study I’ve ever done by Beth Moore!!! This one looks to be one of the best and I’d love to share it with the women I work with!!! Thanks!!!

  698. My favorite Beth Moore study was the on e on Psalms of Ascent. I think it was called stepping up?? Not only was it a blessing to do with our women’s small group – but God drew me so close during this study. “Take your places on your faces!” Loved it!

  699. Lindsay Raymond says:

Oh Goodness, what isnt my favorite beth moore study. I find that when I pick them up– its always God’s timing and I learn so much from each one! Im always excited to begin a new one. She makes me think and challenges me to learn more about God and to think about things in new ways and contexts. I loved Daniel, David and Believe. Right now I am doing Faithful Abundant and True and am enjoying. Maybe my all time favorite in many ways was Esther! It always challenges me to remember that God is purposeful and we are placed for such a time as this!! So make it count!!

  700. Love studies by Beth Moore!

  701. Kristin S. says:

I can’t wait to do this study!

  702. Lisa Golden says:

My favorite Beth Moore study is Breaking Free. You see, I entered that study thinking I was a Christian and that I was okay except for a few things I needed to clean up. I finished that study realizing that I was lost and needed Jesus. It wasn’t long after that Jesus took hold of me and I have never been the same!! Thank you Beth Moore, Living Proof Ministries, and Lifeway for your dedication to getting the Word out there for all of us to see!! Thanks to your efforts and the grace of God and our Lord Jesus Christ I have been redeemed!!

  705. We have done so many of Beth’s studies as a group. It’s a tie between Breaking Free….didn’t know the areas I still needed healing and James, which we recently finished. The trials keep coming esp recently, but I know how to view them now. My sister always said that she could hardly wait to see how God was going to work and I was so busy being angry and depressed that I didn’t allow God to work and now I can!

  706. Can’t wait for this one!

  707. I’ve loved each one! They always come at the exact time in my life I need them!

  708. Beth Kamleh says:

I completed Beth Moore’s Deuteronomy study last year. It was so encouraging to dig deep into the bible, especially a book that I’ve always been a little intimidated by. Love her passion for the word of God and for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  709. I have loved each one!

  710. Heather says:

Toss up between Daniel and Esther!

  711. Barb Silvestro says:

I had the priveledge of seeing Beth live last year in Phoenix, and doing one of her bible studies for our womens retreat at church. It was amazing! Since that time I’ve unfortunately left my ‘home church’ and have just started attending a new church. I am feeling pretty alone and my daughters and I have decided we need to do a bible study just ourselves. They’re 24 and 13 and we were so excited when we all saw this.
Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy.

  712. Regina Johnson says:

I loved Breaking Free and would love to follow-up with this study.

  713. We did “Breaking Free” a few years ago. I think some of the girls were distracted with upcoming weddings. I felt they weren’t fully committed. I would love to try a new study now that they are moms and more settled.

Our church Women’s Ministry has done Daniel, Esther, James & A Women’s Heart. Which I host at my house every fall.
This fall we will be doing The Inheritance, can’t wait.
I was wanting to do this one online with you ladies over the summer.

  724. Mary B. says:

I’ve been blessed by taking part in many Beth Moore studies over the last several years. They have each been encouraging and life changing, making it hard to choose just one as a favorite. But, I will pick “A Woman’s Heart – God’s Dwelling Place” as a favorite, as I learned SO much, my heart fell deeper in love with my Lord, and to put some more “sprinkles on my cupcake,” I made some of my dearest, deepest life-long sister friendships during this study. Thank you Beth Moore for all you do to pour yourself into God’s Word, and then give it out through your studies, teachings and life.

  725. What an amazing testimony of Christ’s love! I love that God is a personal God and gives each one of us a testimony of how He broke through the darkness in our lives, and those girls now have an amazing testimony to tell of Him.

  726. Victoria Pless says:

Would love to win this new study. Have always enjoyed Beth’s other studies.

  727. i’ve been doing Breaking Free, not in a group, just by myself, someone gave me the book, and it’s amazing how God speaks to me through it. it helps to stay focused and apply things to life, get real, and i love the way it speaks hard truth without pressure or condemnation. i would love to do it again with a group of girls.

  728. If I had to choose just one of your bible studies it would be Breaking Free. Incredible life changing study for me. I was able to let go of heart aches I have been burden with for many many years. I still to this day go back over the study when ever something from my past creeps back up to try and get a hold of me. Thank you!

  773. I have been more than blessed to experience 3 of Beth’s studies, Esther, David, and now A Woman’s Heart, and am looking forward with great anticipation to seeing Beth live in Denver this coming July. I felt a kinship the moment I first heard her, perhaps because I could hear the distinct underlying dialect of “home”, but moreover my feeling was the drawing of the Holy Spirit to His Word, which Beth teaches so well. I pray that our Father will allow me the privilege of being a living testimony to others. I KNOW He is preparing my heart for His service, and my deepest desire is that I can present myself a living sacrifice for HIM, to my Mother, and her sisters, who have lived with deep emotional scarring from a young life of abuse.

  774. Nicole Fogler says:

I enjoy doing Beth Moore’s bible studies. Hopeful this could be our small groups next one.

    Jesus the One and Only

  796. Connie Hankins says:

One of my favorite Beth Moore studies was James, Mercy Triumphs. From the following excert from Children of the Day, I think it will challenge us like James did.
No door is so dark and scandalous that Jesus is unwilling to enter to make Himself one person’s exit. For what good is light on this desolate sod if it refuses to show up in the darkness?
