Free Friday: Stronger

“I was born into a long line of worriers.”  — Angela Thomas

How many of you can identify with that? You, too?

I can make you a laundry list of things I’m worried about right now:

  • Launching our new LifeWay Women e-newsletter in a couple of weeks
  • My tomatoes in my garden are rotting on the vine before they’re even ripe
  • Why that guy I’m dating hasn’t called me to ask me out for this weekend
  • A family member is dealing with some health complications
  • I’m behind in my Bible study homework

And the list goes on.

Angela challenges us to let our belief in God make us strong against worry. Check out this clip from Stronger:

To combat the worry, we’re giving away a FREE small group starter kit of Stronger. That includes a leader kit with DVDs and five member books. Enter the giveaway below.

This verse always brings me comfort! I grew up facing adversity but more importantly I grew up with a single mother who always made sure I did my Sunday School lesson and took me to church every Sunday! 111. Mary Walker says

Psalm 30:5: For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. This is my life verse. 120. Lyndie says

Because it’s my arrogant instinct to try to figure it all out by myself instead of “bothering” God with the details, my go-to verse is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING. In all your ways, acknowlege Him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (emphasis mine). My amazing study group will be finishing up our current study in about three more weeks and haven’t picked our next one yet so this would come in very handy. We have not experienced an Angela Thomas study yet.

  121. Peggy Foreman says

There are MANY verses that come to mind. However, John 3:16 is the basis for all the promises HE has made and KEEPS to everyone that is a child of HIS……For God so Loved the World that HE gave HIS only begotten SON that WHOSOEVER believeth in HIM should not perish but HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE! To know HIM is to know HE is our provider, our protector, our provision, our peace,….Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you, I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heats be troubled and do not be afraid…John 14:27.

  122. Katrina Mintz says

The Lord’s words to Job inspire me when I need to know that God is always in control….even in the storms!
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:
2“Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?
    3Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer me. 4“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
    Tell me, if you understand.
5Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—
7while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

  123. Lou Ann says

I discovered this bible study a week or so ago and was already planning to try to purchase. Thanks for the giveaway.
my verse is actually a chapter: Psalm 91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (Psalms 91:1-16 KJV)

  124. Debbie says

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

My verse for worry is Phil. 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”. I try to be obedient to this verse, and like Nehemiah, pray first rather than later.

  187. Banita Cooper says

This sounds like just what I need. I go to 1st Thess. 5:16-18 My fatherinlaw who had cancer (a fragile place for sure) 2 years ago demonstrated this in his life and especially in his last days that I draw much strength from God promise in it.

  188. Dawn Heath Widener says

My current verse ( because I change my mind often) is:
    Romans 5:2b-5
And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces……. Through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

These verses help me to remember that painful as suffering is, it is proof that I am still alive and being molded by the Holy Spirit. If I am still being molded, then that is proof that God still has plans to use me for his glory. If God has not given up on me, then I still have hope.

  189. says

I wonder if we worry so much because we get caught up in the fear that we are alone; that there is no one who can really help us. That’s why I quote to myself what Jesus promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Then I take a deep breath and face life as it envelops me.

There are a few around me that I feel are hearing this call…
some out of a wrong choice,
    others out of loneliness,
yet still others need to get out from under oppression
    2 Cor 12:9
But He said to me, “My powerful grace is all you will ever need, girlie. When you are weakest in all of your worry I WILL BE STRONG.” I will see my weakness as the chance to platform my All-Powerful LORD GOD.
(my paraphrase of needing Him to keep me stronger during waves of oppression right now)

When I worry it’s because I feel powerless over a situation/circumstance. I have to remind myself that God is working on my behalf and that He holds me in His righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10,13 Don’t be afraid for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. For I hold you by your right hand. I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, I am here to help you

Psalm 91:1-2 He who dwell in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” vs 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Luke 12 : 22 Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. 23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature.

Where I go when I worry. :) Rachel
