Happy February, everyone! Can you believe we’re already through the month of January?

To kick off the month of February, we thought we’d give away four copies of B&H Publishing‘s The Vow.

The book is a true story about newlyweds Kim and Krickett Carpenter who get into a bad wreck, leaving Krickett in a coma for weeks. When she finally wakes up from the coma, she doesn’t even remember who Kim is. The book tells the story of how Kim and Krickett, despite all odds, fall in love all over again. 1. Karen Styons says:

Last night I lost one of my dearest friends to Parkinson’s Disease. Over many years her husband has stood by her faithfully…in the last four years, spending his days going to the nursing home at least two times a day to be with the woman he vowed to love and cherish with his whole life, though she had no words left to give him, no arms that would work for her to reach out to him. He was there for her. No man could have loved her better or more. And they loved God together. Singing was one of the few connections Barbara had left; she loved her music and sang with a sextet in church for years. Roger would bring her to church faithfully until it was too painful to move her into a wheelchair anymore, which happened in the last several weeks. Like the couple in The Vow, Roger and Barbara were committed to love one another with their whole lives. “To be absent from the body is to be present with God.” Barbara now is in the presence of her Father, and her husband has fulfilled his vow to love her until death parted them. We do not know what this life holds for any of us. I look at my own husband of 40 years and know he would be that same kind of husband in similar circumstances…that he is my husband who loves me and loves our God first. A vow before God is sacred. I am grateful to the couple in The Vow for sharing their story in word and in film. This is the kind of love story both children and adults need to see as our country declines and refuses to grasp the meaning of love and commitment and honor. “How do they know unless we show them?” The vow does just that in a beautiful way. Just as Roger did that for my friend, in a beautiful way.

  21. That is such a tough question, asking what one of my favorite book is! I have shelves full of them and each is a treasure. But, if I had to pick one to be my favorite, it would have to be the well worn one that I go to over, and over, and over again, day in and day out, known simply as my Bible. After that, I can start by narrowing it down by author: Beth Moore, Max Lucado, Shane Claiborne, Erwin McManus, Leslie Newbiggin, Leonard Sweet, Robert Webber…I tried to narrow it down!
