Study 30 of the Bible’s Greatest lessons
Did you or your church go through the widely popular The Story program over the last few years? If so, you are familiar with this powerful resource that helps you experience the Bible in new ways. One of the driving forces behind The Story, Randy Frazee, along with his team have just released Believe, a great next step for you to take.
Grounded in carefully selected scripture—like The Story—Believe is a church-wide spiritual growth experience for all ages, taking each person on a journey, showing how to think, act, and be more like Jesus. The format is flexible, consisting of an introduction and three 10-week modules revealing the key beliefs, practices, and virtues of a Christ-follower. The accompanying age-appropriate curricula, as well as a rich assortment of printed and digital tools, make this a powerful church-wide discipleship program.
This affordable, customizable, and easy-to-use experience starts with the Bible. Each chapter focuses on one of the 10 core beliefs, 10 key practices, and 10 essential virtues that have unified believers around the world for over 2000 years.
I’ve been a full-time pastor for over 25 years. Since the mid 90’s, I have been haunted by a quote from George Gallup, Jr. in a book he wrote called The People’s Religion:
The churches in America face no greater challenge than overcoming biblical illiteracy, and the prospects for doing so are formidable because the stark fact is, many Christians don’t know what they believe or why. Our faith is not rooted in scripture. We revere the Bible but don’t read it. Some observers maintain that the Bible has not in any profound way penetrated our culture.
It is Gallup’s startling revelation from his research on the state of American Christianity that made such a passionate ambassador for The Story, a chronological abridged Bible engagement resource for all ages that over 6,000 churches around the world have experienced.
Max Lucado and I did The Story with Oak Hills Church during the 2009-2010 ministry season. We designed this experience to raise the level of biblical literacy within our existing congregation and to help them see the one, grand love story of God.
And it has done just that.
But what we didn’t expect was the numerical growth. Our attendance grew 23% that year! It turns out people inside and outside the church long to engage with the Bible in a substantial way.
In fact, a research study called Reveal, conducted with thousands of churches and hundreds of thousands of Christians, concludes that:
1. The number one thing people want from their churches is to help them understand the Bible, and
2. The number one catalyst for spiritual growth is Bible engagement, with no close second.
The number one thing people want is also the number one thing they need: The Bible.
That’s why I’m thrilled to tell you about BELIEVE—a new spiritual growth experience helping Christians of all ages unpack 30 big ideas of the Bible.
Grounded in Scripture (like The Story), BELIEVE uses Bible text to teach the big ideas of the Bible: 10 key beliefs, 10 key practices, and 10 key virtues of the Christian faith. This unique Bible reading experience is designed to help Christians of all ages become more like Jesus in their beliefs, actions, and character.
The true power of BELIEVE is in moving the beliefs from our heads to our hearts. Rodney Stark, a renowned sociologist, observed the power of transformative beliefs in his book, The Rise of Christianity. He was mesmerized by how Christianity grew from one man, Jesus, to a movement that by A.D. 350 had reached 56.5 percent of the western world. Stark’s analysis of the Christians’ radical response to epidemics and social issues led him to conclude that these people actually believed the teachings of Jesus. They believed them in such a way that they took on flesh, and they literally changed their world.
My prayer is that the readers of BELIEVE will understand and believe in our great God and his calling on their lives, and be able to declare, “I know what I believe and why, and in God’s strength, I will seek to live it out all the days of my life.”
It could change the world.
