The Main Event 2018 is coming to 3 incredible cities. You may be thinking of bringing a group. And, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to get your group together! Here are 7 promotion tips that will help.
Set a Goal
Churches who have found the greatest success at getting men on board with The Main Event are those who have set a goal for the number of men to bring. Work with your pastor to set a goal for your church. We encourage you to set a goal that is slightly beyond what you think you can do in your own strength. For example, at a recent conference, Corinth Baptist Church, a church of 200, set an ambitious goal of 50 men. They began to ask God to draw men. Then they began inviting. They had 74. And they’re still talking about all that God did and the shot of momentum that gave their church!
Men follow leaders! Sheep follow the shepherds. If you want men to get on board with your group, the Lead Pastor needs to be talking about it early and often. The absolute best way to do that is to weave it into a sermon as an application point. For example if you’re preaching a sermon on spiritual growth, you might say something like, “Sometimes, getting away from distractions and focusing for a weekend can be a great catalyst for your growth. That’s why I want to invite you to join me at The Main Event. You can get tickets at…”
Men don’t have an inherent felt need to gather like students, kids, and women. This is why announcements may be fine to create awareness or communicate general information. But, they will not move men to action. The best way to engage men as part of your group is through personal invitation. Deploy your men to invite other men. And remember, give them a goal to run after. How many could your guys personally invite 3? 5? 10? 20?

Here’s a poster, too.
Utilize Your Groups
Your church’s existing group structure is one of the best methods of communication you have in your church. Utilize it to get the word out. Equip group leaders with the tools they need to invite the men in their group. One men’s ministry leader I know made the rounds to every group in his church to personally invite the men to join him at The Main Event.
My church does a weekly e-news blast. Maybe yours does a printed newsletter. Whatever the primary means of communication to your people is, utilize it. We’ve found that churches who find the most success with this, run information about the conference for at least 4 weeks with different messages each week. The messaging might look something like this:
- Save the date
- The conference theme
- The speakers
- Personal invitation from the pastor
Social media is one of the best ways to get the word out about The Main Event. If you use Facebook, you can share the Facebook Event for the city nearest you. Don’t forget to tag all your guys and/or use the invitation feature to invite your friends.
