Today’s post comes to us from FUGE staffer Anna Hooks. Anna is a senior at the University of Mobile, where she is a Communication major. After she graduates in May, Anna will serve as a Bible Study leader with M-Fuge at the University of the Cumberlands. Though she grew up in Alabama, Anna does not claim a football team. She loves Oreos and coffee, but not together.
Change can be a very scary or very exciting thing. Sometimes though, change can even be a little of both. High school seniors experience this new period of life where tough decisions have to be made. Should higher education be pursued? If so, at which college or university? The realization soon comes that life will continue to have significant changes with more and more decisions to be made.
As Christians, we have a God who cares about the details of our lives. He tells us not to worry because He knows our needs, and instead He tells us to seek the Kingdom of God and live righteously (Mathew 6:25- 34). Because God knows our very needs and works everything out for good, including trials, we can trust Him. We display our trust in God when we obey Him. A great example of this faith is displayed through Abraham‘s obedience (Hebrews 11:8-10).
Abraham trusted God and left Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the Land of Canaan just as God had instructed him to do in Genesis 12:1-3. Scripture says in Hebrews 11:1 that faith is believing what we hope for will actually happen. Faith can be defined as complete trust. Hebrews 11 is the faith chapter where the great examples of faith are recorded.
Hebrews 12 gives us a great challenge. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
So, let us keep our hearts and minds fixed on Christ so our faith can be deepened. Even through the change and chaos of life, we must trust and obey Him.
