1s & 2s—Push a Doll in a Stroller

Bible Story: Peter’s Letters 1−2 Peter

 Life Point: What we do shows we love Jesus.

Life Verse: God sent Jesus to help people. Romans 8:3

 Christ Focus: Our actions demonstrate our love for Jesus.

Bible Focus: Peter wrote that we should love other people.

 Materials: Bible, doll, doll stroller

  • Invite a preschooler to push the doll in the stroller around the room.
  • Sit on the floor with the Bible open to the Book of 1 Peter. Tell the Bible story as a preschooler waits for a turn with the doll.
  • Comment that Peter’s letters are in our Bible today.

3–Pre-K—Make a Scroll

Bible Story: Peter Wrote Letters 1 and 2 Peter

 Life Point: We show our love for Jesus by what we do.

Life Verse: Do what is good. Romans 2:10

 Christ Focus: We show our love for Jesus by what we do.

Bible Focus: Peter wrote his letters on a scroll.

 Materials: newsprint, small wooden dowels or unsharpened pencils, tape, yarn, markers, labels with Life Verse

  • Cut the pieces of newsprint into 6-by-18-inch strips. Briefly tell the Bible story as children come to the center. Explain that Peter wrote his letters on scrolls, long pieces of paper that were rolled to the center on sticks.
  • Give each child a Life Verse label to stick on his paper. Encourage him to use the markers to decorate their scrolls.
  • Help the children tape the dowels or pencils to the ends of their papers, roll them up, and tie with a length of yarn.

Kindergarten—Write with Bamboo Pens

 Materials: paper, bamboo pens (available in craft stores), black tempera paint, small containers, marker

  • Print the Life Verse on a sheet of paper. Place the paper in the center of the table with the other materials.
  • Show a child how to dip the end of the pen into the paint and make a mark on her paper. Suggest that she copy the Life Verse onto her paper.
  • Comment that Peter wrote his letters using a pen something like she is using. Talk about what Peter wrote in his letters.

Read aloud the Life Verse. Remark that doing good things shows that we love Jesus.
