1s & 2s—Read on a Sleeping Bag

Bible Story: Rest for Moses Exodus 31

 

Life Point: God said we are to rest after working.

Bible Phrase: God said, “Work six days; then rest.” Exodus 31:15

Christ Focus: Jesus bears our burdens and gives us rest.

Bible Focus: God wants people to rest.

Materials: Teaching Picture 6; sleeping bag; books I Know (Pack Item 21), What Does God Want Me to Do? (Pack Item 22), and God Wants People to Work (Pack Item 25)

  • Lay the sleeping bag in a quiet corner of the room. Arrange the Teaching Picture and books on top of the sleeping bag.
  • Invite two or three preschoolers to sit with you on the sleeping bag. Offer to read a book as they are interested.
  • Point to the Teaching Picture and talk about the Bible story. Ask if any of the preschoolers has slept or rested on a sleeping bag. Comment that God wants us to rest.

3–Pre-K—Put Babies to Bed

Bible Story: Moses Rested Exodus 31

Life Point: God said to rest after working.

Life Verse: Work together with a good attitude. Ephesians 6:7

Christ Focus: Jesus gives us rest.

Bible Focus: God told Moses to rest after working.

Materials: Teaching Picture 6, baby dolls, doll crib, blankets, doll pajamas, child-size rocking chair, play baby bottles, baby bathtub (optional)

  • Prop the Teaching Picture near the doll crib. Arrange the other baby items on a nearby table.
  • Invite the children to care for the babies and pretend to put them to bed. Suggest giving the babies a bath, putting on pajamas, giving a bottle, wrapping in a blanket, rock the baby to sleep, and put it to bed.
  • Point to the Teaching Picture. Comment that God wants people to rest, and rest is important for people to remain healthy. Say the Life Verse and thank the children for working together.

Kindergarten—Play Out Nighttime

Life Point: God said to rest after working.

Life Verse: Work together with a good attitude. Ephesians 6:7

Christ Focus: Jesus gives us rest.

Bible Focus: God wants people to rest.

Materials: Teaching Picture 6, sleeping bag or blanket, pillow, child-size robes, alarm clock, books about God and Jesus

  • Make a bed using the sleeping bag or blanket and pillow. Place the robes, alarm clock, and books nearby. Prop the Teaching Picture against the wall near the bed.
  • Invite kindergartners to pretend it is night and time for bed. Talk about nighttime routines the children might follow.
  • Show the Teaching Picture and tell the Bible story. Comment that God wants people to rest because rest keeps people healthy. Say the Life Verse. Thank the kindergartners for working together.
