Preschool: Spring 2014: Unit 1: Session 5: Build (March 30)

1s & 2s—Make a Cardboard Box Church

Bible Story: Building the Tent Church Exodus 25:4–36:6; 39:32-43

 

Life Point: People can give and help do God’s work.

Bible Phrase: Be happy when you give. 2 Corinthians 9:7

 Christ Focus: Jesus willingly gave Himself.

Bible Focus: People helped build the tent church.

Materials: Bible, large appliance box, crayons, wallpaper samples, paper scraps, washable markers, glue sticks, small basket, box cutter (teacher’s use)

  • Remove any staples from the box. Cut a door on the front of the box; cut a few windows on the other sides of the box, if you choose.
  • Set the box in an open area of the room. Put crayons, markers, wallpaper samples, paper scraps, and glue sticks in the basket. (You could choose red, blue, and purple art materials to connect to the Bible story.) Set the basket and Bible beside the box.
  • Tell the preschoolers the box is a pretend church. Invite preschoolers to use the art materials to decorate the outside of the box church.
  • Talk about the Bible story. Emphasize that the people brought the things needed to build the church.
  • Open the Bible and read the Life Verse.

3–Pre-K—Build the Tabernacle

Bible Story: The Tabernacle Was Built Exodus 36–39

 Life Point: People can give and help to do God’s work.

Life Verse: Be happy when you give. 2 Corinthians 9:7

 Christ Focus: Jesus gave to help others.

Bible Focus: The people worked together to give what was needed for the tabernacle.

 Materials: Teaching Picture 5, blocks, fabric samples (red, blue, purple), picture of the tabernacle (Read to Me Bible for Kids or Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids)

  • Display the Teaching Picture and  tabernacle picture with the other materials.
  • Encourage the children to work together to build a the tabernacle from the blocks and fabric pieces. Remind them that they can look at the picture to see what the tabernacle looked like.
  • Talk about the Bible story as children work. Say the Life Verse. Point to the Teaching Picture and comment about what they see.

Kindergarten—Use Tools

 Bible Story: The Tabernacle Was Built Exodus 36–39

 Life Point: People can give and help to do God’s work.

Life Verse: Be happy when you give. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Christ Focus: Jesus gave to help others.

Bible Focus: People built the tabernacle.

Materials: Teaching Picture 5, toy tools, wooden blocks, clipboards, paper, pencils, measuring tapes

  • Display the Teaching Picture near the tools. Briefly tell the Bible story as children come to the center. Comment that some people brought materials and other people did the work to build the tabernacle. Ask what kinds of work the people did to complete the tabernacle.
  • Show the paper and clipboards. Remark that they could draw some plans for what they want to build.
  • Thank the boys and girls for working together with the tools.
