Introductory Activity – Crown Toss
- Plastic crowns or crowns made from heavyweight paper (one crown for every two kids)
Group the kids into partners. Tell partners to face one another. One partner can gently toss the crown and try to get it on the other partner’s head; the partner can move her head to “catch” the crown on her head. Then partners can switch roles. Tell kids that they will hear a story about the first king of Israel.

Game – Pass It Ball
- Beach ball, two laundry baskets or boxes
Place the baskets at two opposite ends of the play area; these are the goals for the game. Group the kids into two teams. Instruct each team to spread out through the play area. Toss the ball to a member from Team 1. Team 1 tosses the ball from member to member, no running or moving the feet. The team tries to pass the ball to their goal and toss it in the basket. If the ball hits the ground, it goes to the other team to pass and try to make a goal. When a team gets the ball in its goal, ask a review question for any team member to answer.
Craft – Memo Board
- Large white or yellow plastic plates, washi tape, scissors, magnetic tape (or yarn and hole punch), dry erase markers
Tell kids they can use the plastic plates to create dry erase memo boards for home. They can decorate around the edges of the plate with the tape. Tell them to make sure and leave space in the middle of the plates for writing notes or lists. As they work, talk about the Bible story and the Life Point. Tell kids that they can use the memo boards to write things they need to do; remind them to think about the choices they make and to ask God to help them make right choices. They can use dry erase markers to write the Life Point in the middle of their memo boards. Add strips of magnetic tape to the back or punch holes and use yarn to create a hanger.
Introductory Activity – What Would You Do?
- Pictures from magazines or found online that show people in different situations; paper and pencils
Display pictures of different situations. Guide kids to look at one of the pictures and write or draw choices they would make in the depicted situation. You can give each kid a picture or display pictures around the room and assign a group of kids to each picture. Talk about the choices kids wrote/drew. Tell kids that today they will think about the choices they make.

Game – Back to Back
- No materials needed.
Group kids into pairs. Tell each pair to stand back to back. Call: “Switch!” Kids move to stand back to back with different partners. Switch a couple of times. Ask a review question and tell kids to talk with partners about the answer. Call on one (or several) partners to give an answer. Switch partners several times again. Ask another question. Continue until you have reviewed the story and discussed choices that honor God.
Craft – Foil Crown
- Craft foam, aluminum foil tape, scissors, pens
Guide kids to cut crown shapes from the craft foam. (You may want to create templates of crowns on heavyweight paper; kids can trace the templates on foam and cut out the crowns.) Help kids cut lengths of foil tape and carefully wrap the tape around the foam crowns. When a kid completes wrapping her crown, guide her to use a pen to engrave the words of the Life Point in the crown. She can add other designs around the words. Talk about the Bible story and about choices that kids make. Discuss how to make responsible choices and say the Weekly Verse.
