Do Over, Session 6: Live It Out Option for Men

Forgotten God by Francis Chan. Click on book cover to order.

For this week’s “Live It Out,” encourage the men to talk about how today’s verses have helped them understand the role of the Holy Spirit better. Affirm that sometimes believers get nervous when they start talking about the Spirit. Ask: Why do we avoid talking about the Spirit and His role in our lives? Discuss responses.

Share that pastor Francis Chan has spent a lot of time in recent years writing about and talking about how important the Holy Spirit is to believers. Explain that in the video you are about to show, Chan talks about how we need to rely on the Spirit and to allow ourselves to get “uncomfortable” for His glory.

Show the video clip from Chan’s sermon. Allow the men to share things from the video that were meaningful to them. If you don’t see the video below, click here to go directly to You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5chFswIEBeA

Challenge men to step out in faith because they really are never alone. Remind them that the Spirit walks with them, empowers them, and even prays for them. Urge them to walk boldly in those truths during the week ahead.

  • Substitute the following question for Question 2 in the Personal Study Guide: What are some practical ways you can put the flesh to death each day? What holds you back from doing that?
  • Substitute the following question for Question 5 in the Personal Study Guide: If you could share your personal prayer list with the Holy Spirit, what would you ask Him to pray for?

Share your thoughts. Why do you think some believers are hesitant to talk about the Holy Spirit? Chan has called the Spirit “the forgotten God.” Do you agree? Why?
