To introduce the topic of “An Identity You Must Embrace” with the parents in your group, lead them to think about one word that describes who they are in relationship to Christ. Listen for someone to say “servant.”
We don’t choose Christ as our master because we have no choice. We don’t obey Him out of fear. We don’t run to Him as our Lord because there’s nowhere else to turn. We yield to Him because He loves us and deserves our submission.
Few movies capture this kind of love like The Princess Bride. Show the “As you wish” scene for the parents in your group. If you don’t see the video below, click here to watch the clip on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6qpa-mRLnI
- In what ways did you experience Christ’s love for you before you accepted it? How can you demonstrate why you love and serve Christ to your kids? How can they see you choose to obey Christ in your everyday life? How can you help your kids see they have a choice when it comes to sin?
- Substitute the following question for Question 3 in the Personal Study Guide: In what situations do your kids feel unable to not sin? How can you help them know and believe God’s Word when that happens?
- Substitute the following question for Question 4 in the Personal Study Guide: What kind of mark does salvation leave? How can you show your kids that you want to serve Christ because of His love for you?
We want to hear from you! How are you introducing the topic of identifying ourselves with Christ with the parents in your class or small group?
