As parents, we want to help our children to achieve success in every aspect. But when we consider what it really takes to follow through on that lofty goal, we realize how horribly we fail in real life.
To help introduce the topic of “A Problem You Can’t Solve” with the parents in your group, make a list of all you’re expected to do between school and bedtime in order to get your kids ready for school the next day. Consider this list of “What a Parent Can Do to Help Their Child Be Successful in School” from a grade school teachers’s blog.
Ask, “As a parent, when was the last time you realized you couldn’t do it all? What did you do?”
Discuss what God’s “Reminder List” would look like for “How to live the Christian Life,” and the fact that, no matter how hard we tried, we could never live up to His standards.
Substitute the following question for Question 3 in the Personal Study Guide:
- What is the difference between your wrath and God’s wrath? How can you show your kids that God’s wrath is not like ours?
Substitute the following question for Question 4 in the Personal Study Guide:
- How are you trying to show your children that we should not compare ourselves to others but to God? How might this difficult lesson teach them God’s mercy?
We want to hear from you! How are you introducing the topic of trying to do it all with the parents in your class or small group?
